Double Destination Global Edge Study Abroad Project Completed
November 23, 2018 Cedar City, Utah
SUU student Tyler Christensen fulfilled a goal of completing two study abroad courses, intertwined with a culture filled stop in Amsterdam in May 2018. With the great planning help of the SUU psychology department, Tyler enrolled in a cultural study abroad in Ireland and also a cultural study abroad in Romania for a month filled with new experiences and great challenges.
In preparation , Tyler completed (PSY 3200) Psychology of Culture during spring semester 2018. He then enrolled in PSY 4500 for each study abroad trip. He began in Ireland where many museums and historical locations were visited and admired. The favorites were Blarney Garden, Kilarney National Park, and Trinity College where you find the Book of Kells. When the course was completed, Tyler ventured on his own to Amsterdam for a 2 day, much needed respite. This was also filled with the Rijks and Van Gogh Museums. The trip to Romania was filled with adversity, as luggage missed the flight, and he was forced to live from his backpack contents for a day or so. Romania was full of driving, driving and more driving to very amazing castles, forests and villages. The lifestyle of Romania is far different from anything you would find in the US.
The SUU edge project is designed to help a student understand and value the whole student. Not just academically excelling, but having an engaged experiential learning curriculum. In completing the pieces in the EDGE program, a student gains an appreciation for continual learning though out a lifetime by using each new experience or aspect of life to teach.
